The sudden death of the Foo Fighters drummer shocked the music world: On Friday the musician was found lifeless in his hotel room in the Colombian capital Bogotá. He was only 50 years old. Numerous stars were shocked by the tragic death. So does Elton John, who worked with Hawkins on the album 'Lockdown Sessions' last year. Hawkins had played drums on it for his fellow musician.
During a performance in Iowa on Saturday, Elton John dedicated the song 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' to the late Hawkins. Clearly emotional, the music icon told the audience: "I woke up this morning and saw that Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters had died. I was so shocked because he played on my 'Lockdown Sessions' album and he was one of the nicest people you could meet. And one of the greatest drummers and a real musician who loved all kinds of music and life."
It was "very sad" to have lost someone at the age of 50 who was so passionate about their job. "And I'm so sad because of his family - his three children, his wife, his relatives and of course the Foo Fighters who have lost a loved one who can never be replaced," said the 75-year-old.
