The pro surfer has written her first book together with her husband Peer Kusmagk, 'The Call of Your Heart', in which they talk about subjects they have never spoken about so openly. So Janni even considered separating: "That had a lot to do with his adopted behavioral patterns. We grew up with men often being excused for who they are. They are allowed to use the wrong tone, they are allowed to be insulting and women are responsible for harmony and care work. I'm a feminist, want to be seen as a woman and have a relationship of equals. But we managed to do that by communicating openly with one another. After the birth of their son Merlin, they had to go to the intensive care unit, so Janni told Gala: "The birth itself was fine, but unfortunately we then had to deal with a newborn infection. We were able to determine that quickly because Merlin had developed a fever and was no longer breathing normally. It is therefore important to keep a close eye on your child. That way we could be helped quickly.”

It has shaped her to this day: "It was a blatant phase. We already had two children and had to split up terribly. As a couple, we hardly had any time for each other, we had an invisible relationship that you just had to believe in at those moments.” And Peer: β€œIt was a moment that changed our relationship forever. We had to rely on it working for the first time. We live unconventionally, take care of our children at home and had to function. We had no choice.”
