The Canadian pop superstar has released his first new music of 2022, along with a music video featuring footage of him recording and rehearsing the song in Toronto and the song's premiere performance at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
The breakup ballad sees the musician singing about the heartache that comes after a breakup, and the track follows his 'It'll Be Okay' track, which was released in December. Both songs were written by the musician after his split from Camila Cabello. Shawn, 23, recently admitted he "hates being alone" following their split. The 'Stitches' singer and the 'Havana' hitmaker dated for over two years until November 2021 and he admitted it was hard adjusting to the "reality" of being single. In a video posted to Instagram earlier this month, Mendes shared, "When you break up with someone and you think it's the right thing to do, you don't realize what all comes after. I think that's the reality. That kind of got me You're like, 'Oh, I'm on my own.' Now I feel like I'm actually on my own and I hate that This is my reality you know Who do I call if I'm having a panic attack for example Who do I call if I'm not well goes?" 'When You're Gone' comes ahead of the 'Wonder' hitmaker's 'Wonder: The World Tour', which kicks off June 27 in Portland, Oregon.
