The two musicians used to be very close, but now they seem to have clearly grown apart. Speaking on the podcast 'The Ax Files', the 'All of Me' singer revealed he's realized how different his and the rapper's views are. In particular, the fact that Kanye supported ex-US President Donald Trump was a thorn in John's side.
"We're not as good friends as we used to be because we publicly disagreed about his presidential bid and his support for Trump," he explains. "That's why it was frankly too much for us to maintain our friendship."
Kanye was angry when his buddy didn't support him in the campaign. "I wasn't the only one but he wasn't happy about it. And since then we haven't been close at all,” admits the 43-year-old.
Despite everything, he doesn't want to say bad words about his former confidante. John respects the 'Stronger' hitmaker's openness about his mental he alth issues. "He's very authentic. There's not much that people don't see. He's pretty outspoken about his opinions, his issues and all the things he's struggling with," he said in praise of Kim Kardashian's ex-husband.
