Special anniversary for Queen Margrethe: She has been the head of state of Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland for 50 years. To celebrate the day, particularly cute well-wishers have gathered to take a closer look at their queen. In the video we show you the Mini Royal fans.
Lunch with her family
On January 14th to the day, Queen Margrethe has been reigning for 50 years. It's been five decades since she mourned the loss of her father, King Frederik of Denmark, while also adjusting to her new role as head of state. On that day in 1972, Margrethe was just 31 years old. In 2018 she had to say goodbye to her husband Prince Henrik, to whom she had been married since 1967.
On Friday, due to the corona, she celebrated in a small circle, only invited for lunch. Also present: Crown Prince Frederik and his wife Princess Mary, as well as the couple's four children. In addition, Frederik's younger brother Prince Joachim and his wife Princess Marie, as well as their two children and the two sons from Joachim's first marriage. Princess Benedikte, the Queen's sister, also took a seat at the table. The royal family published a photo of the royal table on Instagram.
Official 50th Jubilee Photo Released
For the jubilee, the Danish palace published an official portrait of the queen back in November. Queen Margrethe wears a crown set with diamonds and pearls on her hair pinned back. She paired it with matching earrings and a necklace. She rounded off her majestic look with a light blue velvet dress and natural make-up. Only the lips she put in the limelight with a red lipstick.
Margrethe is valued by the Danes mainly because of her attitude towards the modern monarchy and her "normal" life. The Queen is a talented artist and she even turned her hobby into a job. In the early 1970s, for example, the experienced painter and illustrator - at that time still using her pseudonym Ingahild Grathmer - designed drawings that were used for a Danish version of a "Lord of the Rings" film adaptation. She has also created costumes for productions by the Royal Danish Ballet and for several Danish films and TV series.

Throne jubilee is celebrated with many events
A number of events were actually planned for the throne jubilee beginning in mid-January, in which the royal family, government officials and foreign guests were to take part. This included a carriage ride by Margrethe through Copenhagen and a gala on January 15th. However, due to the pandemic situation, the celebrations have been postponed to September 2022 for the time being.
The day of the throne jubilee also marks the date of Frederik IX's death.. Margrethe's father was King of Denmark before his eldest daughter from 1947 until his death on 14 January 1972. Until 1953, the line of succession in Denmark only provided for male heirs. Only by changing the law could Margrethe become head of state.
