Watch out, here comes the roller coaster queen. At 82, Queen Margrethe of Denmark is still adventurous. On the occasion of her 50th jubilee to the throne, she turned her aristocratic world upside down and dared a fast ride on the roller coaster.
Pure adrenaline for Denmark's Queen
Coffee, cake and silly small talk? Not with this daring ruler. Over the weekend, Margrethe visited Copenhagen's Tivoli amusement park for the celebrations. Something wild was needed for the Royal. So after planting a tree, it was off to the roller coaster.
In a cheeky red dress – the color of which matched the seat upholstery of the ride – and with playful headgear, things really got going. And the Queen was having a great time, as evidenced by footage of the wacky act.
Queen of Denmark for 50 years
Since January 14, Queen Margrethe has reigned for 50 years. It's been five decades since she mourned the loss of her father, King Frederik of Denmark, while also adjusting to her new role as head of state. Margrethe was only 31 at the time. At the beginning of the year she celebrated in a small group over lunch with the family.
