Despite being a fitness fanatic who has only recently shown off his trim, toned physique, the 69-year-old composer always feels his own end could be lurking around every corner.
The musician told 'The Independent' on Thursday: "Well of course I'm scared of death. But I've also been obsessed with death since I was in my twenties. I always feel like death is lurking around every corner, waiting to get me, and I've spent my whole life feeling that way."
Film composer Danny, who has composed for 16 of Tim Burton's films, including 'Batman', 'Edward Scissorhands' and 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' as well as 'The Simpsons' and 'Desperate Housewives', has recently showed off his six-pack on stage while singing with his band. Despite all his physical fitness, he cannot shake off his fear of mortality. In the interview he added: "My view of life is that you are on a giant escalator and each step is another year of your life. Somewhere right in front of you is the Grim Reaper. You get another step and wham! he has you You're gone. And you can see behind you, but you can't see ahead. It's a blur. So you can look back and say, 'Wow, I've walked 69 steps. Damned. do i have another one Or 20 more or 30 more ahead of me?' There's no way of knowing. Every birthday I feel like I've cheated death all over again."
